Movement Improvement Massage · Eugene, Oregon

We Don't Chase Pain. We Find What's Causing It.

Movement Improvement is Eugene's movement-first massage clinic. Every therapist on our team is trained to assess before they treat — because the tissue that hurts is rarely the tissue that's broken.

The Problem with How Most Massage Works

Most massage treats the location of pain. You point to your shoulder, they massage your shoulder. You say your low back is tight, they work your low back. It feels good for a day or two — and then the same problem comes back, exactly where it was.

That pattern isn't a coincidence. It's what happens when you treat symptoms without understanding the system. Your shoulder might be tight because your thoracic spine doesn't rotate and your shoulder has to compensate for every arm movement. Your low back might be aching because your hips are limited and every step is loading your lumbar spine instead of your glutes.

At Movement Improvement, we built the clinic around a different premise: understand the body first, then treat it. Every session starts with an assessment. Every decision about where to work, what tools to use, and how deep to go is informed by what we find — not by where you told us it hurts.

That's what makes the results different. And that's what brings people back.

Assessment Before Every Session

We don't start touching until we understand what we're dealing with. A brief intake at every appointment shapes the entire session.

The Full Toolkit — Always Included

Deep tissue, myofascial release, cupping, hot stones, ice, percussion — whatever your body needs that day, it's included at no extra charge.

Measurable Outcomes

We want you to move better, breathe more easily, or reach further when you leave than when you arrived. That's how we know the session worked.

We Work Ourselves Out of a Job

The goal isn't dependency. It's getting you to a place where you need us less. That's what consistency and real outcomes look like.

Meet Your Therapists

Every therapist at Movement Improvement is trained in a movement-first approach to hands-on care. You'll never get a generic session here.

Josh Pugh

LMT · Owner & Lead Therapist

Josh founded Movement Improvement on one conviction: that therapeutic massage should create real, measurable change — not temporary relief that keeps bringing people back for the same problem. He built his practice around a movement-first approach, training himself to look at the whole movement system before treating any part of it.

His clients consistently describe the same experience: they came in with something that had been bothering them for months or years, and Josh found and addressed the root cause in ways no one else had. He draws on deep tissue technique, myofascial release, and cupping to create outcomes that hold — and his approach has earned him a reputation among Eugene's athletes, chronic pain sufferers, and post-accident recovery patients alike.

Josh accepts Oregon PIP insurance for auto accident clients and works with workers' comp carriers. He also leads the Pain Proof Club membership program for clients committed to long-term results.

Heather James

LMT · Therapist

Heather brings a grounded, intuitive approach to therapeutic massage, with a strong focus on nervous system regulation alongside structural work. Her clients appreciate her ability to meet them where they are — whether that means deep, targeted work or a more restorative session to support recovery.

Heather is particularly effective with clients navigating stress-related tension patterns, chronic fatigue, and soft tissue work requiring a careful, methodical touch. She adapts in real time to what the tissue is telling her, never defaulting to a fixed routine.

Andrea Trader

LMT · Therapist

Andrea combines strong technical training with a genuine passion for helping clients move and feel better long-term. She excels in working with clients who have complex or layered tension patterns — the kind that require patience, precision, and the ability to think through the whole movement system.

Her sessions are thorough and communicative. Clients leave not just feeling better, but understanding why they were holding tension in the first place and what to watch for between sessions.

Brittany Norman

LMT · Therapist

Brittany is known for her ability to build trust quickly and her precise, effective approach to soft tissue work. She draws on a diverse toolkit to address each client's specific needs — combining deep tissue, myofascial, and movement-informed techniques to create lasting results rather than session-by-session relief.

Brittany works especially well with clients recovering from repetitive strain, occupational stress patterns, and those who have tried other approaches without finding lasting improvement.

The Principles Behind Every Session

The Body Is a System

Pain in one location is almost always driven by restriction or dysfunction somewhere else. We assess the system before treating any part of it.

Assessment Before Treatment

We take a few minutes at the start of every session to understand how your body has been performing. That conversation shapes every decision that follows.

Right Tool for the Right Tissue

Deep tissue, myofascial, cupping, heat, ice — each modality reaches something different. We use what the tissue needs, not a fixed protocol.

No Unnecessary Charges

The full toolkit is always included at the standard session rate. We don't charge extra for doing thorough work.

Measurable Progress

You should be able to move differently when you leave than when you arrived. If you can't, we didn't do enough — and we want to know.

We Explain What We Find

You leave every session understanding something new about your body. The more you understand the pattern, the better you can manage it between sessions.
